How and what to depreciate in a commercial property?
I bought a commercial property last year and wanted to depreciate for tax purposes. Whether I have to depreciate at a price that I pay or can I depreciate at fair market value of the property. I was filling my insurance for replacement value of $ 485,000 while I paid $ 225,000.
Using the price you paid minus the value of land because land is not depreciated. You also can depreciate any equipment, computers, etc. that you add unless you choose to reduce them entirely in the year where you bought it. Needless to say your insurance company would place such a high price at replacement value as your premium is based on that amount. They took us to come and go.
