Question about military housing?
My husband and I are PCSing to Eglin Air Force base for his first permanent duty station. We're in Texas now while he finishes up his tech school. We aren't really sure if we should live on base (we were told one would most likely be available when we get there in two weeks, though of course they cannot say for sure) or if we should rent something a little bigger off base. We have some listings we can call that are within our BAH. Does anyone know what the housing on Eglin AFB is like now that they've renovated them? Would it even be worth the extra trouble looking for something off base? Just looking for some other opinions. Thanks for your input!
My husband and I were Marines, so I don't know much about how Air Force BAH works, but if it's the same as ours was, sometimes you make more money living off base and there's less drama. It's also nice not being completely surrounded by your work 24-7. Some people prefer base though. It's supposed to be safer.
