Does anyone have any experience with NYC Housing Court?
I am about to go there to talk to a lawyer about a situation with my landlord. What should I expect? If I end up having to file a complaint against my landlord, does this go on my record? I've never had any experiences of this type so please share anything you can.
NYC housing court is, well, how do I put this... a nightmare.
Picture a bar-room brawl in a courtroom.
Seriously, though, if your landlord really, truly is screwing you over, then go for it, because most of the time, tenants with legitimate complaints win.
BUT, in order to do so, you have to go slogging through hell to get there, so be VERY VERY VERY SURE your complaint is 100% legit before you proceed, because it AIN'T gonna be easy, and the system is SO overloaded that it is gonna take a LONG time to resolve, and the landlords know this, so they know they can get away with murder.
