Grand Vacations Points
Discipline of children on vacation?
With summer coming, and we are planning a road trip to the Grand Canyon, I'm trying to find a way to remain consistent in I discipline my 7 year old daughter. At home, take away the privilege to work well. But I do not want to make idle threats while traveling, so I do not want to threaten take something that I have no intention to follow up with. "Stop whining, or we will not go to the Grand Canyon." I was on vacation too, and has put the money and take time off from work. I'm not going to cancel part of the journey to make a point. And eliminate the Nintendo DS or the books will only make me more miserable. I'm looking for advice on how to maintain discipline while on vacation. Any takers?
It is always difficult but the best action is to put the rules before you go. Let him know that every act up will result in the loss privleges like home. Only on this holiday will mean lossing things like swimming in hotel pool (you could still go down to the pool but he had to sit in lounge chairs, pool does not) do not stay up, no gifts of souvenir shops, and you can take the DS he's just like at home, if he whines about it she lost even longer. Also explain to her what you have planned for every day such as what your site will see or what your place will visit, so he knows what to expect. Also you can buy a disposable camera to give him something that he could have full control over when you're site-seeing. Every day before you leave the hotel to review the rules and what you expect from him. Let her know how long it will take you to get where you are going and remind him to bring lots of books and activities to drive. One tip from someone who has frequently southwest, do not carry the DS in the car with you when you will see the site. It becomes very hot in the car and you usually go for long periods of time and the DS can be damaged if left in the heat too long. Your best bet would be to bring books to read and activity books to work on (like a crossword puzzle or word search.)
