Name of Covent Garden has its origins in the mists of time - from the reign of King John in the 13th century. It has been a site of 40 hectares and is the main garden of the convent or the Abbey of St. Peter in Westminster.
For the benefit of visitors, the site is surrounded by St. Martin's Lane, west, Drury Lane, east, Long Acre, Maiden Lane to the north and south. London Transport Museum

London Theaters
The Theater Royal, Drury Lane, is the oldest theater in London. It was at this site from 1663, although the present building dates from 1811. All buildings were destroyed before the great fire of London in 1666.
St. Paul's Church at 31 Bedford Street, also known as the Church of the actors, is the only building remaining from the original Covent Garden. The church walls are covered with monuments in memory of the players and in 2005 the "Avenue of the Stars" was opened in the walls of the church.
Rules Restaurant started by Thomas Rule in 1798 and located at 35 Maiden Lane, south of Covent Garden is the oldest restaurant in London. Originally it was an oyster bar, and diversified into the manufacture of game cakes. He later became in a restaurant that has changed owners three times over 200 years.
Many famous people such as Charles Dickens, HG Wells, Charlie Chaplin, Laurence Olivier and dined there. It is said that in the right of the main entrance is a part built for Edward VII so you can get all your friends in private.
